Abstract
Electron-rich, disubstituted alkynes react with (H(2)IMes)(PCy3)(Cl)(2)Ru=C HPh (1; H(2)IMes = 1,3-dimesityl-4,5-dihydroimidazol-2-ylidene) to form pho sphine-free eta (3)-vinylcarbene complexes. An X-ray diffraction study on ( H(2)IMes)(Cl)(2)Ru[eta (3)-(CHPh)(CPh)(CPh)] (2) confirms the unusual struc ture. These complexes are relevant to the mechanisms of olefin metathesis a nd alkyne polymerization.
