Abstract
Cationic metallacyclopentatriene complexes having an a-alkyl substituent un dergo facile 1,2-hydrogen shift to give butadienyl carbenes. This is exempl ified by the reaction of [RuCp(L)(CH3CN)(2)]PF6, where L = SbPh3, SbBu3n, a nd AsPh3, with 2,8-decadiyne, 1-hexyne, and benzylacetylene. There is an in teresting mechanistic changeover on going to L = PR3, in which case PR3 mig rates with an allyl carbene complex being formed.
