Abstract
The effects of doping the Cherenkov crystal NaBi(WO4)(2) with Sc ions on th e optical properties and radiation hardness of this crystal have been studi ed. The radiation hardness of NaBi(WO4)(2):Sc is about 3 times higher than that of undoped NaBi(WO4)(2). Analytical estimations give the increase of t he number of Cherenkov photons by a factor of 1.3, which leads to an improv ement of the energy resolution of a calorimeter based on NaBi(WO4)(2) : Sc crystals compared with undoped NaBi(WO4)(2) of approximately 15%.
