Abstract
We determined the nucleotide sequence of the enolase (eno) gene of Tre ponema pallidum, the noncultivable agent of syphilis. The deduced amin o acid sequence of T. pallidum enolase (Eno) is 432 amino acids long w ith a predicted molecular mass of 46.7 kDa. The Eno amino acid sequenc e has a high degree of homology to the amino acid sequences of prokary otic and eukaryotic Eno. This is the first eno sequence reported for a bacterium in the order Spirochaetales.
