The Coria Jewish community dates to the end of the twelfth century. Its Jew
ish quarter was situated on Albaicin Street, and on the Plaza of the same n
ame, in the "colacion" of Santa Maria. The synagogue was located on the pla
za of San Juan. Approximately forty-six families resided in the Jewish quar
ter. They earned their livelihood as "torneros", tailors, silversmiths, tax
collectors, etc. As a consequence of the Decree of Expulsion, some Jews fr
om Coria settled in Portugal, where they converted to Christianity. One suc
