Abstract
sigma -Methoxycarbonylphenyl 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-benzyl-1-thio-beta -D-galactos ide 1 was designed and demonstrated to serve as a non-malodorous thioglycos yl donor in a-selective glycosylation reactions with 4-OH galactoside and 4 ' -OH lactoside to give globosyl Gb(2) and Gb(3) saccharides, respectively .
