Abstract
The syntheses and desymmetration of a series of novel polypyridyl ligands a
s well as their complexes, and their DNA-binding properties are reported in
this review. The stresses are focused on the functions and potential appli
cations of such complexes as DNA structural probe, DNA molecular light swit
ches, anti-cancer drugs, and photoactivated cleavage agents.
