Mile much has been written regarding the importance of emotional expression
in psychotherapy, much less attention has been paid to the role of emotion
in clinical supervision. Recently, several radical behavioral psychotherap
ies have been developed that may shed light on theoretical issues important
to the expression of emotion in supervision. This paper describes the theo
retical viewpoints of two such contextual therapies, Functional Analytic Ps
ychotherapy (FAP) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and applies
the frameworks of these therapies to the process of clinical supervision.
