Abstract
Representations of 2(x) by means of first and third degree polynomials yiel d e(x) values to 6-12 and 13-15 significant figures, respectively. The full range of arguments is reached through a set of precalculated values of 2(a ). A Fortran implementation is shown to be much faster than the intrinsic e xp function of several Fortran mathematical libraries. (C) 2001 Elsevier Sc ience B.V. All rights reserved.
