A flow mixing calorimeter followed by a vibrating tube densimeter has been
used to measure excess molar enthalpies H-m(E) and excess molar volumes V-m
(E) of {xCO(2) + (1-x)SF6}. Measurements over a range of mole fraction enth
alpies HE and excess molar volumes VE of x have been made at the three pres
sures 3.76, 5.20 and 7.38 MPa over the temperature range 250.15-319.60 K. T
he lowest pressure 3.76 MPa is close to the critical pressure of SF6 and th
e highest pressure 7.38 MPa is close to the critical pressure for CO2. Some
of the measurements are very close to the critical locus of the mixture. T
he measurements are compared with the Patel-Teja equation of state which re
produces the main features of the excess function curves as well as it does
for similar measurements on {xCO(2) +(1-x)C2H6} and {CO2 + (1 - x)C2H4} re
ported previously. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
