Durability of yellow-poplar and red maple treated with ammoniacal copper qu
aternary compound, Type B (ACQ-B) was evaluated in field plots in West Virg
inia and Mississippi. Stakes were vacuum-pressure treated with ACQ-B to fou
r retentions and placed at the test sites. Stakes were evaluated yearly acc
ording to American Wood-Preservers' Association standards. The 3-year resul
ts suggest that retentions above 0.2 pcf(as CuO) will result in satisfactor
y performance of all species tested. Southern pine performed extremely well
at all retentions above zero. All species exhibited increases in durabilit
y performance as retentions increased.
