The configuration of the communication between entities of an automated pro
duction system could be derived from the design of its information system.
Thus, our objective is the design and integration of the industrial communi
cations of distributed automated systems. Based on the information system s
tudy, without having recourse to new modelling tools, we want to generate t
he configuration of the communication system while guaranteeing consistency
between these two systems. Hence we offer to the designer of the productio
n system the means that are necessary for the realization of his or her sys
tem. In order to reach our objective we are using object-oriented design me
thods (i.e. OMT: Object Modelling Technique) for the information system stu
dy and the industrial protocol MMS (Manufacturing Message Specification) fo
r the communication system. In order to allow the transition step from conc
eptual stage of the information system to the MMS environment, we have defi
ned some translation rules. These rules are studied from the point of view
of the implementation constraints. In order to validate our approach and it
s feasibility we have presented a remote control application of an industri
al robot with feedback video for which the MMS objects and services are gen
erated.
