Bt. Edwards et al., A pseudo-rigid-body model for initially-curved pinned-pinned segments usedin compliant mechanisms, J MEC DESIG, 123(3), 2001, pp. 464-468
The Pseudo-rigid-body model concept allows compliant mechanisms to be analy
zed using well-known rigid-body kinematics. This paper presents a pseudo-ri
gid-body model for initially curved pinned-pinned segments that undergo lar
ge, nonlinear deflections. The model approximates the segment as three rigi
d members joined by pin joints. Torsional springs placed at the joints mode
l the segment's stiffness. This model has been validated by fabricating sev
eral such segments from a variety of different materials. Testing of the fo
rce-deflection behavior of these segments verified the accuracy of the mode
l.
