Abstract
Steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence measurements were conducted on newly synthesized Frechet-type dendrimers with naphthalene peripheral group s in homogeneous and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) micellar solutions. Inten se excimer emission was observed for the third-generation dendrimer 3 but n ot for the first-generation dendrimer 1a. This different spectroscopic beha vior was attributed to the geometry of dendrimer 3, where excimeric interac tions between adjacent pi -stacked naphthyl groups are present.
