5 dogs with peripheral nerve injuries - 3 radial nerve and 2 peroneal nerve
paralysis - were presented at the small animal clinic of the FU Berlin and
were treated with a new surgical technique. The patients were examinated c
linically, neurologically and an electromyographic examination was performe
d. The surgical technique consisted in a direct transposition of a sound ne
rve in a paralyzed muscle. After 12 weeks 4 dogs were able to use their leg
in a correct fashion. One dog showed an improvement of the clinical signs
but remained unable to bear weight on his leg.
