A 32-year-old woman presenting with a rapidly progressive ALS-like syndrome
was found to be HIV positive with a CD4 count of 44/mm(3). The patient rec
overed completely during 1 year after treatment with nelfinavir, zidovudine
, and lamivudine, and recovery is sustained nearly 4 years later. Recovery
was accompanied by HIV RNA becoming undetectable in plasma and CSF.
