Abstract
We studied the effects of I ow-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic s timulation (rTMS) on seizure susceptibility in rats. rTMS of 1000 pulses at 0.5 Hz led to a prolonged latency for seizure development after an intrape ritoneal injection of pentylenetetrazol. The rTMS effectively prevented the development of status epilepticus of pentylenetetrazol-induced convulsions . These findings indicate that low-frequency rTMS affects the neural excita bility, in the direction of anticonvulsive, and therefore, suggest the poss ibility of therapeutic use of rTMS in epilepsy.
