Abstract
Gas microstrip detectors have been previously developed by the particle phy sics community, where their robustness, compactness and high counting speed have been recognised. These features are particularly attractive to synchr otron radiation use. In this paper, we describe a gas microstrip detector e mploying multi-element readout and specifically developed for high count ra te fluorescence EXAFS at soft X-ray energies below 4 keV.
