Bone is a vital, dynamic tissue that performs many functions, including a m ajor role in serum homeostasis. A complex interplay of factors affects bone function and bone health, This article provides an overview of bone physio logy and the pathophysiology of osteoporosis and fragility fracture. An und erstanding of the material presented here will provide a foundation to asse ss the bone health of individuals, to promote bone health, and to prevent f racture in patients of all ages.
