We present here for the first time continuum-discretised-coupled-channels (
CDCC) calculations for the elastic scattering and breakup of Be-9+ C-12. We
employ a two-body cluster-folding (CF) model picture of Be-9, which is con
sidered as a He-5 core plus a He-4 cluster. The calculations agree well wit
h data for elastic scattering and excitation of the 5/2(-) resonance of Be-
9 at 2.43 MeV. The cross section for excitation of the 1/2(+) resonance at
1.68 MeV is not well described by our model. the calculations being conside
rably smaller than the data. This is as expected from structure calculation
s of Be-9, which suggest that this state is almost exclusively of Be-8+n cl
uster form.
