The g factor of the first 2(+) state of Cr-54 was remeasured employing the
combined technique of projectile Coulomb excitation in inverse kinematics a
nd transient magnetic fields. The value obtained, g = + 0.840(56), is signi
ficantly larger than previous data. The new value agrees better with a trun
cated than with a large-scale shell model calculation. The present result i
s discussed in the context of recently determined g factors of the first 2(
+) states of Cr-50 and Cr-52 as well as B(E2) values determined from lifeti
me measurements.
