E. Bischoff et J. Schmutz, An investigation of the deformation caused by micromachining in OFHC copper using electron Backscatter Kikuchi Patterns, PRAKT METAL, 38(8), 2001, pp. 454-464
Single-orientation measurements were made on copper samples using Backscatt
er Kikuchi Patterns to determine the depth of deformation resulting from mi
cromachining and to investigate the different material behaviour in micropl
aning in a conventional manner and with the support by ultrasound. It becam
e evident that deformations may be made visible by this method. The depth o
f deformation depends on how the grains are oriented with respect to the di
rection of load. When machining was effected with the support by ultrasound
a tendency was found for the grains to rotate in a direction which makes i
t easier to activate slip systems.
