Abstract
Titanium foil is employed for electron transparent windows in the electron beam dr scrubber process. The foil suffers corrosion, which limits the wind ow life. Here, the examination or a palladium-coated window, prepared by io n beam assisted deposition and plasma source ion assisted deposition (PSIAD ), after service in a pilot-scale plant is reported. Most significantly, th e adhesion of the coating was reduced by the flue gas. Where the coating re mained adherent. corrosion was negligible. Elsewhere, general, intergranula r and pitting corrosion occurred. A PSIAD coating provided the best perform ance. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
