Abstract
A theoretical analysis for predicting the performance of laminar osmotic pr essure controlled cross flow ultrafiltration (UF) is presented in this work . Variations of the physical properties e.g., viscosity, diffusivity, etc., with concentration have been incorporated. The analysis is carried out fro m the first principles. There is no adjustable parameter in this work to ac count for the effects of property variation in UF The predictions from the analysis are in excellent agreement with the published experimental data of bovine serum albumin at pH 4.7. The theoretical predictions of Sherwood nu mbers under different operating conditions agree remarkably well with the r esults using semi-analytical Sherwood number relationships available in the literature.
