J. Shamir et M. Shamir, PLURALISTIC IGNORANCE ACROSS ISSUES AND OVER TIME - INFORMATION CUES AND BIASES, Public opinion quarterly, 61(2), 1997, pp. 227-260
Pluralistic ignorance is a well-documented phenomenon in public opinio
n research. We adopt the social perspective on pluralistic ignorance a
nd focus on the information environment for an explanation of it. Rega
rding pluralistic ignorance as a problem of information, we consider i
ts implications in terms of cross-sectional variation as well as over
time. The empirical analysis combines a comparative study of issues an
d analysis over time of gender issues and the question of returning te
rritories for peace in Israeli public opinion.
