Abstract
Snakebite may be complicated with bacteria infectionS, most of which are Gr am-negative bacillus. Snakebite complicated with Vibrio vulnificus infectio n has not been reported previously. Vibrio vulnificus infection is characte rized by a necrotizing wound infection similar to the local lesion of sever e snakebite. In Vibrio infections, aggressive debridement with the administ ration of strong antibiotics as early as possible is the only effective tre atment. ve report a 79-y-o man who suffered from snakebite on the right pal m with rapid progression of hemorrhagic bulla, necrotizing fasciitis, compa rtment syndrome, and septic shock. Vibrio; vulnificas was cultured from nec rotic tissue after aggressive debridement and Fasciotomy. The patient recov ered from antibiotic treatment and several courses of reconstruction surger y. Severe bacteria infection, such as caused by Vibrio vulnificus, should b e considered in snakebite cases refractory to antivenin dosage.
