Hemoglobin, after being treated with dimethyl sulfoxide, exhibits a direct
electrochemical response at a pyrolytic graphite electrode. The apparent st
andard potential (E-alpha) of hemoglobin is -0.119 V (vs. NHE). Meanwhile,
since no electrochemical mediator is required for its direct electrochemist
ry, this work provides a convenient way to perform electrochemical research
on this protein. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
