Abstract
A codification table is proposed as an alternative to attempts at unif ying the terminology of types of natural protected areas (NPA). The ta ble is based on a bit matrix, which provides unambiguously interpreted codes of the main types of NPAs. This approach makes it possible to a void terminological discrepancies that complicate international cooper ation in the field of protection of natural areas.
