Abstract
The marine natural product cylindrospermopsin has attracted much attention due to its high toxicity, its widespread occurrence in the environment and its complex chemical structure. This article discusses the isolation and st ructure determination of cylindrospermopsin, together with its impact on th e environment and also covers the diverse synthetic methodologies which are currently under investigation directed towards the total synthesis of this intriguing molecule.
