Timing jitter of dispersion-managed solitons controlled by filters: analytical results

Using a variational approach, an exact analytical expression is derived for the variance of the timing jitter of a dispersion-managed soliton in the p resence of lumped narrowband filters. The asymptotic behaviour of the timin g jitter shows a linear dependence with distance, which is in contrast with the cubic dependence in the unfiltered case. It is shown that complete sup pression of timing jitter is possible by a convenient choice of the strengt h and relative position in the dispersion map of the control filter.
