Abstract
This paper analyses how the complex process of cultural transformation in A tlantic America occurred after the Iberian conquest, colonization and conta cts between the Iberian society and American Indian groups. The culture of the dominant Iberian society conquered the local Indian culture, but receiv ed important influences from it, leading to an Indian-Iberian cultural cont acts are now related to the new American colonial society, very different f rom the original one.
