I. Trebichavsky et al., Nitric oxide metabolites in gnotobiotic piglets orally infected with Salmonella enterica serovar typhimurium, FOL MICROB, 46(4), 2001, pp. 353-358
Reactive NO metabolites play a distinct role in the control of Salmonella e
nterica serovar Typhimurium (ST, a facultative intracellular pathogen) in s
usceptible host. A significant increase of nitrite and/or nitrate plasma le
vels, 3-nitro- tyrosine expression and pathological changes in mesenteric l
ymph nodes have been observed in gnotobiotic piglets orally infected for 1
d with a virulent strain of ST but not in pip-lets infected with a rough mu
tant of ST.
