Abstract
The focus of postoperative treatment of a replanted extremity or part has s hifted from survival to achieving good function. A successful rehabilitatio n program includes early mobilization and blocking of metacarpophalangeal e xtension to prevent intrinsic-minus hand deformity. The authors' treatment protocol uses three splints to achieve an intrinsic-plus posture and coordi nated grasping. These splints include the dynamic crane outrigger extension splint, the anti-claw splint, and the dynamic extension splint. Using this protocol, the authors have achieved good functional results with replantat ions at the transmetacarpal, wrist, and forearm levels.
