Ned. Beltrao et al., CHANGES IN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF ANNU AL COTTON UNDER SUBSTRATE FLOODING CONDITIONS, Pesquisa agropecuaria brasileira, 32(7), 1997, pp. 701-708
To verify and quantify the effects of a temporary lack of oxygen in th
e root system of herbaceous cotton (Gossypium spp.), synthetic hybrid
cultivar CNPA Acala 1, producer of extra long fiber and recommended fo
r planting in irrigated areas and in regions of high rainfall, the pre
sent research was done under greenhouse conditions. The results showed
that production of cotton seed and plant precocity were significantly
reduced with increase in flood stress caused by substrate waterloggin
g. The maximum precocity reduction was registered at the two-true-leaf
stage of plants. The same occurred in the number of bolls per plant,
which was reduced by 50% in comparison with the check.
