Abstract
A new soluble polymeric phase transfer catalyst based on poly vinylchloride has been prepared and used successfully in the periodate oxidation of benz oin for the first time. Its activity is seen to be comparable to a monomeri c phase transfer catalyst. The catalyst is reusable and thus combines the a dvantage of a soluble and an insoluble catalyst.
