Previous studies on adoption of the Internet and WWW have investigated fact
ors affecting usage. We believe that the intention to use a technology is e
qually important, not only for promoting the technology but also for encour
aging its voluntary continued use. Although the Triandis model has been app
lied to a number of technology adoption studies, its adequacy has not been
assessed by using a confirmatory analysis method. Structural equation model
ing may be used to assess the adequacy of the model for a technology adopti
on study and to compare it to alternative specifications that integrate pre
vious research results. To prove our hypothesis, data were collected from 2
55 part-time MBA and diploma students. The results show that our proposed m
odel provides a better fit than the original model. The structural path mod
el shows the important factors that influence the intention to use the Inte
rnet/WWW as well as interrelationships between the factors. Comparing previ
ous results on actual usage, the relative importance of factors affecting i
ntention formation is different. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights
