Abstract
This paper deals with circumferential strain measurement for concrete in tr iaxial compression by using fiber optic sensing system. A fiber optic sensi ng system was developed to measure the elongation of the optical fiber for cylindrical concrete specimen in triaxial compression by using white light interfering. And a theoretical model describing the relationship between th e elongation of the fiberglass and the circumferential strain of cylindrica l concrete specimen in triaxial compression was proposed, too. Some tests w ere done to verify the measurement method. The results indicate that the pr oposed method is valid. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
