Abstract
The formation of the field of a cylindrical defect in the form of a st raight-through opening situation in the plane of symmetry of a weld is investigated theoretically and experimentally. It is shown that the p resence of a weld introduces hardly any changes into the formation of local defect fields when the object being monitored is magnetized alon g the weld. The results of an investigation obtained when monitoring l ocal defects in the plane of the sample can therefore also be applied to welded joints.
