Abstract
This paper discusses the processes of the appearance of microrelief and its parameters on films of polymethyl methacrylate 1 mm thick and polyethylene terephthalate (PETP) 0.7 mm thick with a hard platinum coating. It is prop osed to optimize the process for fabricating PETP substrates with microreli ef. The birefringence and the transmittance of the films are studied as a f unction of their stretching. The possibility of using them as scatterers fo r displays, diffraction gratings. and other optical elements is discussed. (C) 2001 The Optical Society of America.
