Abstract
In 1903-4, the Reverend Robert Elwood was put on trial by the Presbyterian Church for his role in a brutal racial lynching in Wilmington, Delaware. Ch urch elders and public opinion were divided in their assessments of a contr oversial sermon delivered by Elwood prior to the incident.
