N. Oyama et al., Treatment of recurrent auricle pseudocyst with intralesional injection of minocycline: A report of two cases, J AM ACAD D, 45(4), 2001, pp. 554-556
Pseudocyst of the auricle (PCA) is characterized by asymptomatic and fluctu
ant swelling of the external ear and frequent relapses despite various ther
apeutic approaches. We describe two patients xith recurrent PCA who were su
ccessfully treated with intralesional injection of I mg/mL of minocycline h
ydrochloride (minocycline), 2 or 3 times at 2-week intervals. Intralesional
injection of minocycline may be a new therapeutic Choice for conservative
management of PCA, especially in recurrent cases. The mechanisms of minocyc
line action that may have led to reduction of the cystic lesions are discus
sed.
