We studied the impurity effects on the molecular spin ladder, (p-N-ethylpyr
idinium nitronylnitroxide cation (= p-EPYNN; S = 1/2))-(bis(4,5-dithiole-2-
1,3-dithiole-2-thione) nickelate anion (=[Ni(dmit)(2)]; S = 1/2)), that inv
olved a two-leg spin ladder of [Ni(dmit)(2)] sandwiched by ferromagnetic ch
ains of p-EPYNN, by making a solid solution system p-EPYNN. with x less tha
n or equal to 0.5. Doping of the non-magnetic [Au(dmit)(2)] increases Curic
defects in the ladder and results in antiferromagnetic behavior of p-EPYNN
. This can be explained by the antiferromagnetic domains on the p-EPYNN cha
in induced by the spin polarization around the impurity site on the (NI(dmi
t)(2)] spin ladder.
