Abstract
roxy-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-6-methyl-4H-chromen-4-one (HL) forms a yellow 1:3 (V: HL) complex with V(III) ion in aqueous medium at 0.15-0.2 mol l(-1) CH3COOH and 60-70 degrees C. The complex is extracted into chlo roform and shows absorption maximum at 410-415 nm. The molar absorptiv ity is 3.3 x 10(4) l mol(-1) cm(-1) at 410 nm. Beer's law is obeyed ov er the vanadium concentration range of 0-2 mu g ml(-1). The method is simple, rapid and sensitive and has been satisfactorily applied for th e determination of vanadium in synthetic and technical samples.
