A new Species of Solanaceae from the Province of Loja, Ecuador, Sessea jorg
ensenii Benitez, is described and illustrated. The new species is distingui
shed from other species of Sessea from the Province of Loja by the leaves d
ensely dendritic-pubescent below as well as hearing scattered black, simple
or bifurcated hairs with swollen bases; this latter type of hair is also f
ound oil stems, petioles, floral axes, calyx, corolla, and valves of the fr
uit. It also differs in having slightly curved flowers with the calyx 11.5-
13 mm long and covering the basal half of the corolla and three-fourths of
the capsular fruit.
