W. Constantine et al., Inertial range determination for aerothermal turbulence using fractionallydifferenced processes and wavelets - art. no. 036301, PHYS REV E, 6403(3), 2001, pp. 6301
A fractionally differenced (FD) process is used to model aerothermal turbul
ence data, and the model parameters are estimated via wavelet techniques. T
heory and results are presented for three estimators of the FD parameter: a
n "instantaneous" block-independent least squares estimator and block-depen
dent weighted least squares and maximum likelihood estimators. Confidence i
ntervals are developed for the block-dependent estimators. We show that for
a majority of the aerothermal turbulence data studied herein, there is a s
trong departure from the theoretical Kohnogorov turbulence over finite rang
es of scale. A time-scale-dependent inertial range statistic is developed t
o quantify this departure.
