Abstract
The alpha -alkylacetyl chlorides were slowly treated with dried triethylami ne, followed by treatment with alcohols or amines, to produce beta -keto es ters or beta -keto amides, respectively. The process is a convenient altern ative to prepare beta -keto esters and beta -keto amides.
