One of the prerequisites for the successful production of L-glutamic a
cid with Corynebacterium glutamicum is the realization of adequate gro
wth under biotin limiting conditions. The intracellular biotin content
, i.e. the specific biotin concentration is shown to be the limiting f
actor for growth in this fermentation process. Modelling of growth is
then examined with logistic models and Monod kinetics. For the descrip
tion of the lag phase different extensions of kinetics are compared re
spectively tested and two new mathematical functions suggested for thi
s purpose.
