The molecular structure of the benzene-solvated donor-acceptor complex dich
loro[2,2 " ,4,4 " ,6,6 " -hexaisopropyl-1,1':3',1 " -terphenyl-C-2'](pyridi
ne)gallium benzene hemisolvate, henceforth known as 2,6-Trip(2)-C6H3GaCl2-p
yridine benzene hemisolvate or (1) + 0.5 C6H6 (Trip = 2,4,6-triisopropylphe
nyl), [GaCl2(C36H49)(C5H5N)].0.5C(6)H(6), has been determined. The asymmetr
ic unit consists of four independent molecules of (1) and two benzene solve
nt molecules. The Ga-C, Ga-N and Ga-Cl bond lengths span the ranges 1.979 (
7)-1.983 (2), 2.028 (6)-2.040 (7) and 2.179 (2)-2.212 (2) Angstrom, respect
ively. All independent molecules of (1) have essentially the same geometry
with slight differences in the orientation of the peripheral phenyl rings a
nd isopropyl groups in the terphenyl moiety.
