Abstract
This study evaluated the clinical significance of transesophageal echocardi
ographic findings in 245 patients with a recent cerebral ischemia and norma
l carotid arteries. Atrial septal aneurysm and patent foramen ovale are com
mon findings in patients who have had strokes and have normal carotid arter
ies.
