In some subjects, it is impossible to obtain an accurate pulmonary arterial
wedge pressure. This report examines the relation between pulmonary arteri
al diastolic and mean pulmonary arterial wedge pressures. In patients witho
ut substantial pulmonary hypertension, these 2 pressures are usually within
5 mm Hg of one another. In contrast, they are often disparate in those wit
h pulmonary hypertension.
